Bed and Breakfast in the historic Derbyshire Peak District
village of Hathersage
Environmental Policy
We use eco friendly cleaning products in our
rooms and prefer elbow grease to sprays. The linen and towels are washed in eco
friendly products and as we have plenty of fresh air in Hathersage they are
mostly dried on the line. Your room will be serviced every day and we will
ensure that you have a dry towel for the afternoon, however we don't change the
bedding or towels until after day four of your stay - unless you ask
us.
We offer a fiver discount on your stay if you arrive by 'green'
transport, we are happy to pick you up from the station and we can transport
bags onto another destination. There is a lockable space for bikes, and a hose
pipe to wash the mud off! We are lucky to have a railway line that travels
along the valley which offers a fantastic opportunity to leave the car and
avoid those traffic jams. The buses are also good and mostly run to time.
The radiator in your bedroom is thermostatically controlled so you can
turn it up or down to whatever suits you. We prefer fresh air rather than plug
in 'air fresheners' and although old, our windows do work! We have installed
underfloor heating to the bathroom - which although a bit of a luxury is also
economic and controllable.

We ask you to consider
the impact on our local rivers and only put natural products down the loo!
There are plastic bags for sanitary waste, etc. by the loo.
(Cheers!)
Naturally we recycle everything we can, so just leave out
anything that can be recycled and we will clear it daily. We do not use
individually packaged toiletries or beverages - helping to cut down on
packaging and waste - and all our loo roll is made from recycled
paper.
We shop locally whenever possible - helping the local economy and
cutting down on travelling. Some of the food on your plate carries the Peak
Cuisine Award for locally produced food, and most is either purchased at the
farmers' market or is home grown either in our garden or by the local
WI.
For products like bananas, oranges, tea and coffee, which come from
further afield, we make sure we buy Fair Trade products which give poorer
producers a fair price for their crops. We try to buy organic and free range
produce and we hope you will notice the difference!
We are pleased to have been
awarded the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark for our green
efforts! |
